Tune-In to the Ultrabooknews (and UMPCPortal) App!

How lucky are we? Someone’s created a Ultrabooknews app for Windows Phone. All we did was point Giacomo Cusinato in the direction of some of our RSS feeds and Boom!, an Ultra-app was born.

ultrabooknewsapp2ultrabooknewsapp1

Download the app and you’ll get updates from UMPCPortal, Ultrabooknews and the ‘SteveChippy’ YouTube channel along with a stream of devices as they go into our databases. Our social links are also included. Perfect for the CES launch tomorrow.

All we can say is download and rate Giacomo  up! In the store: Here

[This is an unofficial app. We don’t have any plans for Android or IOS apps…but maybe someone else does?!]

Update: Sorry everyone, the live session this evening is cancelled. Will upload a video in a few hours that answers some of the questions in the comments. Again, sorry!

Sony’s Engineering on Haswell-based Ultrabooks and tablets has been top-notch so far. The Sony Tap 11 2-in-1 is looking great. The Vaio Duo 13 slider is a quality bit of kit too. The Sony Vaio Pro 13 takes a more traditional approach but offers some unique specs. A 13.3-inch Full-HD Haswell Ultrabook in 1KG is one example.

I’ve just started a live stream while I test the Acer Aspire V5 122P, the AMD Temash-based laptop. The stream will run from now and at 2100 Berlin (15 minutes from this post) I’ll start to introduce the Acer and do some interactive active testing, Q&A with anyone that joins in the chat.

It’s all happening on the live page right now.

Notes from Live Session below.

Update: A more controlled set of tests have now been completed. See results here.

Ultrabook and Touch Hangout Video

Lenovo Thinkpad Twist (36)  The Live video is over but it’s embedded below. I must say that the session didn’t go as planned. At some point the URL got changed and people couldn’t get into the Hangout. Maybe we’ll try again soon but it was certainly not as good as the Ustream sessions we’ve run where people like to chat and don’t need to put their face up on video. I’ll look into restoring the original method.

Ultrabook Forums now Sparkly Clean. I’m Ready for Your Questions

ultrabook-forum-headSorry, sorry, sorry, sorry sorry.

If there’s one thing I didn’t do this summer, it was look after the Ultrabook Forums. That has changed and you’re now welcome to join in and discuss Ultrabooks , without the spam!

I’ve cleaned up and applied a few new policies to registration but we need a mod or two to help keep things in order. I’ll help out, Ben is helping out but is there anyone else out there that would like to help out as a mod? Comment below if you can help.

An Ultrabook forum is be a great place to exchange ideas, issues and to help new customers as they try and work out the difference between Microsoft Surface RT, ASUS Vivo Tab and the Samsung ATIV Pro! We can exchange tips on deals, software and hacks as well as have a place to sound-off or just chill-out.

I’d love to see you all in there and as a special encouragement, in November I’ll be answering your calls for help in the General Ultrabook Discussion forum. If you have a query about what Ultrabook to buy, i’ll answer the questions on a daily basis.

Again, sorry for not keeping the Ultrabook Forums clean over the last 4 months. Please register now and enjoy a better experience.

Ultrabook Comparison Tool Now Active. Find *Your* Ultrabook

Late last week I added new features to the product database. You can now filter the database in real-time by selecting a form factor, touchscreen technology or by simply typing in the search field. Today I’ve added the comparison feature.

comparewindow

Not only does the comparison page allow you to view much more information in-line, it allows you to sort more fields than in the normal database overview. In addition, it completes a short process you can use to drill down into Ultrabooks like never before.

The Ultrabook Database – Improved!

I’m sure many of you have been in and looked around the product database. We’ve kept it up to date with every Ultrabook and it’s been extremely popular. 20% of our site traffic is now going to the database.

Over the last year we’ve built tools around the database to try and make it easier for you to find what you’re looking for but today I updated the interactive list with a couple of new features that will help you navigate through the next wave of Ultrabooks that will be offering more features in new form factors.
