Yesterday at Apple’s annual developer conference, WWDC, the company revealed a refreshed version of the MacBook Air, the company’s thin-and-light Ultrabook competitor. Both 11-inch and 13-inch versions are getting Intel’s latest Haswell chips. Apple claims 9 hours of battery life for the 11-inch Air and 12 hours for the 13-inch. While critics have called Ultrabooks ‘MacBook Air Clones’, Apple may be falling behind.
At Computex 2013, Dell is showing off their new Lenovo Yoga. Impressive as it may be, we see some early red flags.Ultrabook — it’s an impressive combination of many of the latest technologies. The Acer Aspire V5 has always been a notebook to keep an eye on. It’s not quite an Ultrabook but comes with a very nice price which probably explains why it appears to have been a big seller. An AMD Temash A6-1450 4-core 1Ghz with 1.4Ghz Turbo is also now available. The 11.6-inch screen will be multi-touch and the price about $450. We’ve ordered one.

The Toshiba Z10T has officially launched in Germany. This pro-level detachable is due in Q2 with what we believe is one of the new low-power Ivy Bridge CPUs. It will go head-to-head with the Fujitsu Q702, the Lenovo Helix, Samsung ATIV 700T and, if it ever reaches the market in quantity, the ASUS.

As with many of its recent notebooks, Asus announced the Bu400 business Ultrabook several months ago — though it’s only just starting to near market availability. At CeBIT, Chippy got his hands on the Bu400V, the Core i7 model with discrete Nvidia GPU. The BU400 has a great port set and is a bit more square than the Zenbook series; I think it looks great — very professional and definitely suited for the boardroom. The BU400 has a big battery and is built for extra durability to survive against drops, spills, and apparently feet.
