Overview

The Envy 6t is the large-screen Ultrabook in HP's 2012 range of thin and lights. 15.6" sounds productive but we're a little dissapointed to see 1366x768 resolution on such a large screen. As yet, we haven't seen any options for higher resolution screens but this could be something HP offer in their B2B business. 2nd and 3rd-Generation CPUs are available along with a discreet GPU option. As yet, we haven't seen any SSD options which clearly leaves space for the HP Envy Spectre models

Tarox Modula Ultrabook, 14.1", 1500gm
The Tarox Modula Ultrabook is an Ivy-Bridge based Ultrabook which comes in various models. Basically there is a Core-i3 and a Core-i5 version with either 120GB or 250GB SSD. The Display comes at a rather average 1366x768 pixels at a 14" screen. We would have loved to see some more pixels in there, but arguably at that budget pricepoint we may overlook this here. To put all in a nutshell: a good middlerange ultrabook at a budget price!

ASUS S56CM, 15.6", 2300gm
The ASUS S56CM is a 15" Ultrabook with a wide range of options to choose from. With its thickness of only 21mm and 2.3kg weight this is a light 15.6" laptop. It runs on Intel's Ivy Bridge platform sporting a 1.8GHz Core i3 in its cheapest configuration and a Core i7 with 1.9-3GHz clockrate at the end of the price-spectrum. There is a sibling model of this laptop at 14" which lacks the NVIDIA GeForce GT635M graphics card.

Asus U500, 15.6", 2200gm
The Asus U500 competes with Ultrabooks like the Gigabyte U2442 in that it offers highly portable power. With up to a Core i7 quad-core processor and powerful Nvidia GT 650M graphics, the U500 is a mobile powerhouse but don't expect lengthy battery life. Due to the Quad Core 35W CPU ,the U500 is not a true Ultrabook. Also known as the UX51, which is a little confusing!

Toshiba Satellite U840W, 14.4", 1570gm
Looking very focused toward that cinema experience but also something that will be useful for productivity. Side-by-side windows would work well in this resolution. The weight seems acceptable for the size and as with other Toshiba Ultrabooks, the port selection is good.

Vizio Thin Light CT15, 15.6", 1796gm
Coming in 14″ (CT14) and 15.6″ (CT15) flavors, the Vizio Thin + Light is based on Ivy Bridge. Both feature the exact same ports, specs, and features. A whole range of Intel Ivy Bridge ULV processors is available: Core i3-3217U (1.8GHz), i5-3317U (1.7GHz), or i7-3517U (1.9GHz). All models are equipped with 4GB of RAM and integrated HD 4000 graphics. The screens are the only thing to set the two sizes apart. It’s good to see that an HDTV manufacturer isn’t sending this out with low res screens; the 14″ is equipped with a 1600×900 display while the 15.6″ comes with a full 1920×1080 display. We’ve confirmed that the 1080p screen is IPS, but the 1600×900 screen doesn’t appear to be

Acer Aspire M3, 15.6", 2300gm
The Acer M3, launched in March 2012 brings big-screen to the Ultrabook segment. It also brings discreet graphics in the GT640M module which will open up some gaming, CAD and video possibilities. At 2.3KG it's a vey heavy Ultrabook though and the screen resolution of 1366x768 will really dissapoint some. A large battery capacity should offset the extra battery drain from the large screen and GPU. Entry level pricing is competitive.

The ASUS Zenbook UX51VZ is the same 15.6 inch UX51 that we’ve seen before — not quite an Ultrabook thanks to a more power-hungry QM processor — but with high density 2880×1620 IPS display, which puts it at 211.82 PPI.
