Alternatives to the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist
Alternatives to the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist
|Asus Transformer Book Flip 13, 13.0", 1750gm||Datasheet|
Sony VAIO Flip 13, 13.3", 1310gm
The Sony VAIO fit is a interesting Convertible Laptop. At 1.3kg with a 13.3" Screen you can use the touchscreen comfortably at your lap. It has an optional active digitizer, which is not included at default. The touchscreen registers up to 10 fingers. We like the Full HD resolution aswell as the 8GB of RAM. It features a dual webcams - a 8MP camera on the back and a not further specifed HD Webcam on the front. Note that the screen uses the so called 'Triluminous Display' technology for richer colours and contrasts.
Dell XPS 12 Convertible, 12.5", 1520gm
From a design perspective the XPS Duo 12 is certainly a stylish alternative to a slider or dockable tablet but we are concerned about the weight of the device in tablet mode. Pricing is also quite high but that may not deter those looking for a stylish option. 47Wh battery is not the largest in this weight category.
|HP Pavilion 11 X2 (h112nr), 11.0", 1580gm||Datasheet|
Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro, 13.3", 1400gm
The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro is markedly thinner and lighter than the Yoga 13 that started this 360-degree fold-back segment. An incredibly high resolution screen is the highlight. MicroHDMI and only two USB ports are disappointing. Great keyboard and battery life.
ASUS TaiChi 31, 13.3", 1500gm
A completely new cdesign in convertible tablet / laptops. Instead of a new style of hinge, ASUS have simply put two screens on the TaiChi. This is running Windows 8 with an Ultrabook core. Clearly it's not going to be available until later this year. We're adding news items, videos and specifications to this page as it develops. Check back regularly.
Panasonic AX, 11.6", 1140gm
This Panasonic convertible is available in Japan and offers some of the best we've seen in terms of specs, weight, size and features. This is an 11.6" Full SSD convertible in 1.1KG! Vpro models available. Sensor pack included. Unfortunately the screen is only 1366x768 but on an 11.6" screen, that's acceptable for most.
Samsung ATIV Q, 13.3", 1290gm
The Samsung ATIV Book Q is a hybrid with a completely new design, QuadHD+ (3200×1800) and weighing 1.2KG. Based on Haswell it should offer a lot of performance and great battery life. It comes with a dual operating system. Windows 8 and Android are provided with seamless switching making this a unique proposition at launch.
Lenovo Yoga 2 11, 11.6", 1388gm
A Baytrail-powered (Pentium branded) Yoga that comes at a launch price of $529 could appeal to those looking for an Ultrabook-style 2-in-1 but not needing the high-end features and price.
MSI S20 Slidebook (Slidebook S20 0M-048US), 11.6", 1170gm
MSI is working on second generation Ultrabook which features a touchscreen and convertible functionality. The S20 is a convertible Ultrabook which uses a sliding design, much like the Asus Eee Pad Slider and long forgotten (and never sold) Samsung Slider 7. The MSI S20 is equipped with Windows 8 which Microsoft has retooled for touch input with the Metro interface (pictured above). The S20 is exciting because it will be one of the first touchscreen convertible Ultrabooks with both Ivy Bridge and Windows 8 — a combination that could actually represent a good touchscreen computing experience in the world of mainstream PCs for the first time.
