MSI S20 Slider Ultrabook Convertible Finally Available in the U.S.

msi s20 release date price united statesAs MSI isn’t one of the largest computer makers out there, it’s understandable that their new product launches happen over a period of time, and across a number of regions, rather than all at once. A reasonable excuse, we’d say, for the MSI S20 Slider Ultrabook convertible that popped up on our radar many months ago. The unit, which has been slowly made available in the EU region, is finally on sale in the U.S.

MSI S20 Ultrabook Convertible Hands-on, Latest Info on U.S. Release Date

msi s20 ultrabook gallery 5

The MSI S20 is a remarkably elusive device. Chippy tracked it down for a hands-on at CeBIT 2013 this week. We first learned about this appealing looking Ultrabook convertible 9 months ago — back in June 2012. We knew we’d be waiting until at least the launch of Windows 8 in October of 2012 before the official release date, but here we are several months after that and the MSI S20 still isn’t widely available.

MSI S20 Ultrabook Convertible: Official Release Date, Price, Colors, and Gallery

msi s20 release date price united states

We’ve known about the sleek-looking MSI S20 Ultrabook convertible as far back as June of 2012. With Windows 8, MSI couldn’t launch the S20 until the official Windows 8 release date on October 26th. But in an Asus-like fashion, MSI left the S20 linger and left any details regarding its release date and price up in the air. Earlier this month, some 7 months after the first announcement, MSI is finally dropping details on when you can get your hands on the S20 Ultrabook and how much it will cost. Additionally we’ve got a fresh gallery of what is likely the final renders of the S20.

MSI S20 Slidebook Now Shipping

MSI S20

In my regular check of availability for Windows 8 tablets and Ultrabooks I found a couple of interesting new products. The HP Envy X2 and ASUS Vivo Tab are now shipping but these are CloverTrail dockable tablets that won’t really interest anyone looking for desktop-level performance (see UMPCPortal.com for more.) For those looking for some touchscreen Windows 8 mobility with a ‘Core’ inside though, check out the MSI S20 i546 a slider with an 11.6” FullHD screen and a weight of just 1.16KG. Loaded with a Core i5 and 128GB of SSD this little gem is shipping in a number of countries in Europe now.

MSI S20 Slider Ultrabook Convertible . Hands-On + New Info

MSI appear to have quietly given the MSI S20 slider an airing. We first saw this back in June in a not-too-professional presentation by themselves but despite that it’s been one that has gained quite a bit of interest. Recent news highlighted a target price (yes, the good old non-committal target price!) of $799-$899.

Engadget and LesNumeriques have news for us…

MSI Slider S20: Target Price $799-$899

Tucked into a report on MSI’s 2012 line-up over at Digitimes today is a mention of the MSI S20 Slider that appeared at Computex earlier this month. MSI are apparently aiming for an October or November release for between $799 and $899

Launch date is obviously going to depend on Windows 8 availability but we’re expecting that to happen without delay in Q4 anyway. As for the price, it seems quite competitive.

Computex Day Zero UltrabookNews Round-Up

computex windows 8 ultrabooks

And just like that, inside 12 hours, the Ultrabook market was turned on its head. I’m looking back at the HP Envy 6t that we put in the database this morning and thinking wow!, I wonder if anyone’s going to buy an Ultrabook before Windows 8 launches. What happened at Computex today was exciting, but a little worrying. Hopefully we’ll be back to current-day Ultrabooks on Day 1 at Computex.

Sliding MSI S20 Ultrabook with Ivy Bridge and Windows 8 — First Details Emerge

MSI is working on second generation Ultrabook which features a touchscreen and convertible functionality. The S20 is a convertible Ultrabook which uses a sliding design, much like the Asus Eee Pad Slider and long forgotten (and never sold) Samsung Slider 7.  The MSI S20 is equipped with Windows 8 which Microsoft has retooled for touch input with the Metro interface (pictured above). The S20 is exciting because it will be one of the first touchscreen convertible Ultrabooks with both Ivy Bridge and Windows 8 — a combination that could actually represent a good touchscreen computing experience in the world of mainstream PCs for the first time. We tracked down preliminary details for the S20, step inside to have a look at this exciting sliding Ultrabook.
